Cardinals' Yadier Molina: Will have status for Opening Day determined in mid-March

Molina (thumb) will have his status for Opening Day determined in mid-March, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

The Cardinals are planning to take things slowly with their veteran backstop, as he's already had two surgeries on his thumb this offseason. They're hoping this cautious approach will help Molina be ready to go when Opening Day comes around, but things will become more clear once he begins to play catch again. Brayan Pena is slated to get the bulk of the catching duties while Molina is on the shelf.
