Warren was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports.
The Cubs sent Warren down Tuesday with the intention of having him stretch out to a starter's workload. Warren has been used strictly as a reliever while with the Cubs this season, but he does have experience as a starter. Last season with the Yankees, Warren notched a 3.66 ERA with a 1.219 WHIP across 17 starts. Provided that Warren is able to stretch out quickly, the Cubs intend to recall him in time for a start before the All-Star break.
