The Cubs announced Tuesday they hired former major leaguers Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis.

Ramirez, who was with the Cubs last season as a player-coach for Triple-A Iowa, was hired as a hitting consultant. Ramirez spent 19 seasons in the majors (1993-2011). He totaled a .312 batting average, .411 on-base percentage, .585 slugging percentage, .996 OPS and 555 home runs. He was a 12-time All-Star and won the Silver Slugger award nine times.

President of baseball operations Theo Epstein added Tuesday that Ramirez has not "formally retired."

Youkilis was hired as a scouting and player development consultant. Youkilis spent 10 years in the majors (2004-13), batting .281 with a .382 on-base percentage, .478 slugging percentage and .861 OPS. He was a three-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove award in 2007.
