Barnes signed a minor league deal with the Cubs on Wednesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

Barnes spent the majority of last season at Double-A, struggling to the tune of a 5.59 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 30 appearances (six starts). The 28-year-old lefty will simply serve as pitching depth within the organization and doesn't figure to factor into the big league club's plans.
