General manager Jerry Dipoto termed the results of Friday's exam on Hernandez's injured shoulder as "encouraging" and "better than expected", Bob Dutton of The News Tribune reports.
There were initially fears that the injury that forced Hernandez from his April 25 start against the Tigers was much worse. However, the final diagnosis stemming from the test was bursitis, which results from the large bursa at the top of the shoulder becoming inflamed. It generally is remedied with rest, which Hernandez's current three- to four-week recovery timetable would provide. However, Hernandez has different ideas, already vowing to return to the mound by mid-May.
