Tigers' Tyler Collins: Designated for assignment

Collins was designated for assignment Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Collins got off to a solid start in the first month of the season to emerge as an everyday option for the Tigers, but he's regressed badly in May, slashing .108/.237/.292. The 26-year-old didn't have any remaining minor-league options, so the Tigers will have to drop him from the 40-man roster in order to open up a spot for Alex Presley, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. If Collins goes unclaimed off waivers, he'll likely remain in the organization and report to Toledo.
