Jay has moved to the bullpen with Double-A Chattanooga in an effort to manage his workload this season, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Jay's 2016 season can officially be labeled a success, as he has managed a 3.35 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 80.2 innings across High-A and Double-A to this point. He has silenced those who doubted his ability to transition from college reliever to professional starter, and should be viewed as a top-100 prospect for dynasty leagues. His workload could bump up to around 140-150 innings next season, so he should work as a starter for most of 2017 with an eye on joining the big league rotation sometime in 2018.
