Davis' (forearm) contract automatically voided Thursday, making him an unrestricted free agent as of March 15, the Charlotte Observer reports.
The stipulation was placed in the two-year deal that Davis signed last June, which served to spread out his signing bonus and dampen the salary cap hit. After playing valiantly through a broken right forearm in the Super Bowl, the soon-to-be 33-year-old will have to decide whether the risk of another serious injury is worth it. However, he cobbled together the second-most tackles on the Panthers in 2015 -- or 105, to be exact -- so the production is still in line with his history when healthy.
