The Redskins selected Nicholson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 123rd overall.

The Michigan State defense fell off in 2016, but Nicholson was a good starter over the last two years, and his athletic testing at the Combine implies starting potential in the NFL. At 6-foot-2, 212 pounds, Nicholson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds, adding a 125-inch broad jump. Washington has a few options at safety, but there might be an opening for Nicholson to compete for a starting role right away.
