Canadiens' Jeff Petry: Placed on injured reserve

Petry (leg) has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 6, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Petry will definitely miss the season opener Thursday in Buffalo, but could be ready to play Saturday in Ottawa. With Petry heading to IR, the Canadiens have opted to keep first-round draft pick Mikhail Sergachev on the roster. The 18-year-old will start Thursday, skating on defensive pairing with Alexei Emelin.
