Maple Leafs' James van Riemsdyk: Goes on injured reserve

Van Riemsdyk (foot) was placed on injured reserve by the Maple Leafs on Monday, James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail reports.

Van Riemsdyk will miss 6-8 weeks because of the injury, so the Maple Leafs will use the move to open up a roster spot for the return of Nick Spaling on Tuesday. There's been no real update on his timetable, so at this point it's probably best to assume there's no change until otherwise noted.
