A-Rod publicist issues statement to put return rumors to rest: 'It's not happening'
A-Rod has released a statement through his publicist saying he won't play again in 2016
With rumors about possible interest from the Marlins swirling, Alex Rodriguez has come out and said he will not play again this season. A-Rod issued a statement through longtime publicist Ron Berkowitz on Monday.
Here's the statement:
"I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season. It's not happening. Like he said Friday night, he is happy and he is going to take some time to relax and hang with his family and friends."
Prior to Friday's final game with the Yankees, A-Rod said he "probably won't be answering the phone for anyone" except New York the rest of the season. "After all of this I'm going to need a long nap so I can recover. I'll see where life takes me, but right now, I value wearing this uniform and wearing the Yankees pinstripes is enough," he added.

The Yankees released Rodriguez following Friday's game and he will clear release waivers on Monday. Once that happens, any team can sign him for the pro-rated portion of the league minimum. A-Rod is only four home runs away from 700 for his career.
Keep in mind that even if the statement is sincere, Rodriguez is free to change his mind at any time. He could decide to play with the Marlins right in his back yard and make one last push for 700 career home runs.
