Cubs-Indians 2016 World Series: Kipnis downplays reports he won't play in Game 1
The Indians' star second baseman hurt his ankle celebrating after the last out of the ALCS
As we get set for Game 1 of the World Series between the Cubs and Indians on Tuesday night, the hosts in Cleveland are perhaps keeping one eye on their star second baseman's injured ankle. Here's what Jason Kipnis did to himself in the moments after his team won the ALCS ...

Kipnis sent out that tweet on Sunday. On Monday during media day in Cleveland, this report made the rounds ...

In the following video snippet, however, Kipnis appears to downplay the possibility of sitting out the series opener ...

By the sounds of it, Kipnis still expects to be in the lineup against Jon Lester and the Cubs in Game 1. The faint whiff of uncertainty, though, reinforces how important that five days of rest has been for the Indians. Either way, we'll know soon enough whether Kipnis is in the lineup and whether he's still limited in any capacity.
"He's going to run the bases and do those things (today)," said Indians manager Terry Francona on Monday. "He'll be fine. He hit last night in the sim game. I don't think it's going to get in the way."
This season, the 29-year-old second baseman has batted .275/.343/.469 with 23 homers and 15 stolen bases in 156 games. Suffice it to say, he's a vital part of the Cleveland's hopes against the mighty Cubs.
