CHICAGO -- Right-hander Kyle Hendricks, the Cubs' starter for Game 2 of the NLDS against the Giants (SF-CHC GameTracker), was forced to leave his start on Saturday night after a line drive off the bat of Angel Pagan appeared to strike him on the right forearm. The team later announced that Hendricks was being evaluated for a right forearm contusion. X-rays were negative. At the time of his injury, Hendricks was staked to a 4-2 lead.
Hendricks was replaced by Travis Wood, who soon after became the third pitcher in Cubs history to hit a postseason home run.
This season, Hendricks, 26, pitched to an MLB-leading 2.13 ERA (188 ERA+) in 190 innings. He's on the short-list of favorites for the NL Cy Young Award in 2016.
