Noteworthy for our purposes is that recently retired Dodgers broadcaster/baseball legend Vin Scully numbers among those who will receive a medal from President Obama on Nov. 22. Scully of course retired from the Dodgers broadcast booth at the end of the 2016 season after an astounding 67 years with the club.
Via the official White House press release, here's what the Presidential Medal of Freedom signifies:
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the Nation's highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
Scully, who turns 89 on Nov. 29, previously received the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.
