Saturday night in Seattle, the Mariners and Cardinals continued their interleague series with the middle game of their three-game series. The Mariners won Friday's opener on a walk-off homer that cost Trevor Rosenthal his closer's job.

In the middle of the fifth inning Saturday night, Matt Carpenter lifted a high fly ball to left field that Seth Smith was able to run down even though a fan ran onto the field. Smith actually had to change his route slightly to avoid the guy.

To the action footage:

The out was recorded and the fan was eventually tackled by security and taken off the field. The game continued without incident.

Every time a fan runs onto the field, I can't help but think back to a 1993 game between the Yankees and Red Sox, when a fan ran onto the field and interrupted play during what would have been the final out. The Yankees should have lost right there, but the umpires ruled the play dead, so the game continued and the Yankees rallied for the walk-off win. Check it out:

That was pretty wild. That's one of those games I'll never ever ever forget.

Anyway, don't run onto the field, folks. It's not worth getting banned from a ballpark -- or arrested, for that matter -- just to give your friends some cheap laughs.
