On the occasion of Alex Rodriguez's 3,000th hit -- a home run at Yankee Stadium -- we got to know Zack Hample, the authority when it comes to retrieving foul balls and home runs hit into the stands. Hample, of couse, caught A-Rod's milestone ball and later presented it to him in exchange for a donation to a charity he supports

On Tuesday night in the Bronx (one night after catching his 1,000th ball at Yankee), Hample alleges he was assaulted while trying to secure a ball hit into the seats prior to the Orioles-Yankees game ...

More from Hample:

On the other hand, things turned out OK for Hample a bit later, as he snared Ryan Flaherty's third-inning home run ...

And here's video of it -- i.e., the home run ball, not the alleged assault.

As for the occupational hazard of note, consider all of that to be ... developing.
