Later today, Mets right-handers Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia will make their way from New York to San Diego for the 2016 All-Star Game. The team's ace and closer were both selected to their first Midsummer Classic this year.

David Wright, the Mets captain and a seven-time All-Star himself, left both Syndergaard and Familia a personalized gift at their lockers Saturday, congratulating them on their first All-Star selections. Newsday's Marc Carig has the details:

They found bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label waiting at their lockers, each with an accompanying handwritten note. Syndergaard's was written in English, Familia's in Spanish, both written on Citi Field stationery, both signed "D. Wright."

Wright congratulated each on making the All-Star Game in San Diego on Tuesday and reminded both to enjoy the experience.

Nice touch by Wright, who's always been known to go out of his way to help and congratulate the team's young players. There's a reason he's the captain, after all.

Syndergaard was a candidate to start the All-Star Game before suffering an arm injury this weekend. It's more of a "dead arm" phase than an actual injury. Familiar is one of four closers on the NL roster, and because this is his first All-Star Game, he figures to see setup work while a veteran like Kenley Jansen or Mark Melancon gets the ninth inning.

Wright has been limited to only 37 games this season due to ongoing back and neck problems. He's currently working his way back from neck surgery and doesn't figure to return this season.
