The Nationals have traded catcher Kurt Suzuki to the Athletics, the A's announced. The Nats, of course, originally acquired Suzuki from the A's in a trade last season. Amanda Comak of the Washington Times, who first reported the deal, says Washington will receive a low-level pitching prospect in return.
Suzuki, age 29, is batting .223/.284/.311 with three home runs in 78 games this season. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 86 across parts of seven major-league seasons.
With starter John Jaso out indefinitely with lingering concussion symptoms, the A's are in need of help at the catcher position.
