The Cubs and Sammy Sosa haven't communicated in 'about three years'
The Cubs legend is on the outside looking in during the World Series
As the 2016 World Series shifts to Wrigley Field, you might wonder which Chicago Cubs legends will show up for Games 3 through 5. The Cleveland Indians, after all, had Kenny Lofton and Carlos Baerga throw out the ceremonial first pitches in Games 1 and 2.
It's a fair question, but we know which Cub legend won't be in attendance for the upcoming games: Sammy Sosa. In fact, Sosa apparently hasn't had any connection to the organization in years, per an interview with the Wall Street Journal:
The Cubs have not retired his No. 21 jersey. They have not invited him to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, or sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," or work with their young hitters. Sosa said about three years have passed since he had any kind of contact with anyone in the organization.
The fallout between Sosa and the Cubs seems to pertain to his supposed usage of performance-enhancing drugs, as well as the ugly way he departed the organization more than a decade ago -- e.g., leaving the season finale without so much as putting on his uniform.
Time is supposed to heal all wounds, but it seems like the Cubs are more likely to break their curse than invite Sosa to take part in a team-related event anytime soon. And that's too bad, given how big of a deal Sosa was for the franchise during his day.
