Saturday night at Coors Field, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton reminded everyone why he is still the premier power hitter in baseball.

Stanton clobbered the longest home run of the 2016 season, a monster 504-foot blast the broke a 2-2 tie against the Rockies. Look at this thing:

Good gravy is that a moonshot. Sure, the thin mountain air helped that one add some distance, but there was zero doubt that ball was leaving the yard. Here's the Statcast data:

The previous longest homer of the season was a 491-foot bomb by Rangers rookie Nomar Mazara. Here are the 10 longest homers hit since Statcast data become publicly available last season:

  1. Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins - 504 feet on Aug. 6, 2016
  2. Kris Bryant, Cubs - 495 feet on Sept. 6, 2015
  3. Michael Taylor, Nationals - 493 on Aug. 20, 2015
  4. Nomar Mazara, Rangers - 491 feet on May 25, 2016
  5. Jonathan Schoop, Orioles - 485 feet on Aug. 26, 2015
  6. Mark Reynolds, Rockies - 484 feet on July 21, 2016
  7. Nelson Cruz, Mariners - 483 feet on April 29, 2015
  8. Josh Donaldson, Blue Jays - 481 feet on April 23, 2015
  9. Hanley Ramirez, Red Sox - 481 feet on June 21, 2015
  10. Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins - 479 feet on June 23, 2015

As if the sheer distance was not impressive enough, Stanton's homer gave his team the lead in the fifth inning of a sneaky important game. The Marlins are currently tied with the Cardinals for the second wild-card spot, and the Rockies are only four games back, so Miami wants to keep pace with the Cards while keeping Colorado at bay.
