WATCH: Hunter Pence stays in game after fouling a pitch off his face
He continued his at-bat despite a swollen cheek
During Saturday night's game against the Nationals, Giants outfielder Hunter Pence did something I feel like only Hunter Pence could do: he fouled a pitch off his face.
Here's video of the foul ball, which bounced off the ground and directly into Pence's cheek. He not only lobbied to stay in the game, he succeeded! Pence continued the at-bat.
To the action footage:
Geez, that's rough. That ball hit Pence with some velocity, so much velocity that his cheek swelled up immediately, and you could see the imprint of the seams on his face.
Check it out:

Yikes. I'm surprised the Giants allowed Pence to stay in the game and didn't send him for concussion tests. He's missed a big chunk of the season already with a hamstring injury. You'd think they'd want to make sure they don't lose him again.
Anyway, Pence did remain in the game, and it looked as though they got the swelling to go down with some ice. It wasn't nearly as swollen in the later innings. Glad to see Pence is okay.
