The Pirates dominated the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night by a score of 12-1 (box score), but the subplot was Pittsburgh reliever Arquimedes Caminero, who was ejected after hitting Jean Segura and Nick Ahmed with pitches up and in. In between those two HBPs, the D-Backs got a bit of retaliation. Here's a look ...

That's scary stuff right there, especially for Segura, who has an unfortunate history of taking pitches to the head. Here's the latest on the D-Backs' middle infielders ...

As you might imagine, Arizona manager Chip Hale wasn't especially pleased after the game ...

To emphasize, here's the money-quote from Hale:

''Guys need to keep the ball down and away from the head area. If a guy can't do it then he has no business being up here in the major leagues.''

You'll recall that these two teams have some bad "HBP-related" blood going back to at least 2014.

Anyhow, the Pirates of course make a point of pitching inside, and in large part that's why they've led all of MLB in hit batsmen in each of the past three full seasons and are again near the top in 2016. However, regularly plunking guys tends to make you pretty unpopular with the opposition, and that goes double when you go up and in (intentionally or not). These same two teams get together again in Pittsburgh on Wednesday and Thursday.
