So far the 2016 rookie class has not come close to matching the star power of the 2015 rookie class. That's okay though. The 2015 class was historically great thanks to players like Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor, and Noah Syndergaard, among others.

One of the best rookies in baseball this season is Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara, who was called up last month when Shin-Soo Choo landed on the DL. Mazara launched this long home run against Angels southpaw Hector Santiago on Wednesday afternoon:

Golly, that was a blast. Mazara hit it off a lefty pitcher too. Left-handed hitters can sometimes have trouble with advanced big league southpaws when they first get called up simply because they don't see too many lefties coming up through the minors.

Here is the Statcast data on Mazara's blast:

491 feet! That is easily the longest home run of the season so far. Giancarlo Stanton (who else?) held the previous record with a 475-foot home run a few weeks back. It's also the third longest home run overall since Statcast was put in place last season.

Mazara, 21, came into Wednesday's game hitting .317/.364/.483 (126 OPS+) with seven home runs in 38 games. I'm feeling pretty good about my AL Rookie of the Year pick right now. Just don't ask me about my other predictions.
