Orioles' Steve Pearce likely to get playing time at multiple positions
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Orioles slugger Steve Pearce expects to see playing time at multiple positions in 2015, per MLB.com. Pearce could see playing time at first base, right field, left field, third base and DH.

“It definitely will be fun,” Pearce said of being used in a versatile role. “You never know what you’re going to get. If I’m in the lineup, I’ll play anywhere.”

Pearce had a breakout season in the majors in 2014, batting .293 with a .556 slugging percentage, .930 OPS, 21 home runs, 26 doubles and 49 RBI in 102 games.

“Just a chance to show what I could do last year and getting the opportunity and seizing it,” Pearce said of what he was proud of last year. “It’s been a long road for me on that part but I’m just glad that I got the chance.

“It took a while [for the 2014 season]  to sink in. For me, last year was so fun for what we accomplished as a team. Not just my individual stats. How we surprised people like nobody said we’d do. When I look back on it that was probably the best for me.”

Orioles likely to use a combo of players to replace Markakis in RF
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Orioles manager Buck Showalter is expecting to use a few players in right field to replace Nick Markakis, who signed a free-agent deal with the Braves in the offseason.

"We're equipped to have that be a two- or three-headed player," Showalter said of the Orioles' right-field situation which could include a combination of Travis SniderSteve PearceDelmon YoungAlejandro De Aza and Chris Davis, per MLB.com. "It also allows us to keep everybody in the flow and have everybody make contributions with their skill set. But somebody steps out there and takes off with it … that's why I think Steve [Pearce] graduated a little bit from that [role as a part-time player]."

Duquette: Orioles have internal replacements for open OF slot
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Orioles executive vice president for baseball operations Dan Duquette said Thursday that the team has internal options on hand to replace outfielder Nick Markakis, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Markakis is heading to Atlanta, leaving the Orioles with a hole in the outfield, but it appears they're leaning towards plugging that slot internally. Duquette mentioned Alejandro De Aza, David Lough and Steve Pearce as potential options, while Dariel Alvarez and Mike Yastrzemski are minor-leaguers who could also figure into the mix. The Orioles will still be looking for outfield depth on the market, even if the team's starting replacement for Markakis is already in the organization. Duquette also mentioned the bullpen as an area of priority this offseason.

Of the major-league options mentioned, Pearce shined the brightest offensively in 2014, hitting .292/.373/.556 with 21 home runs, 49 RBI and five stolen bases in 338 at-bats in the best season of his career by far. De Aza spent much of the season with the White Sox before coming to Baltimore, and he hit .252/.314/.386 between the two teams with eight home runs, 41 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 477 at-bats. Lough hit .247/.309/.385 with four home runs, 16 RBI and eight stolen bases in 174 at-bats.
