More reason to like Steve Pearce again
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

I've wondered allowed if Steve Pearce's recent turnaround could be a sign of things to come and more than once compared him to Brandon Moss, thinking he could be another late-bloomer if only he'd get the chance.

Based on what CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman said on Thursday's Fantasy Baseball Today, he absolutely will.

The video goes into more detail, of course, but to summarize, the Orioles really like Pearce. They believe in him, which doesn't explain the way they used him in July, but whatever, it's a new month.

Considering he hit .336 with a 1.003 OPS over a two-month span earlier this season and .294 with an .893 over nine minor-league seasons, I'm willing to take a flier on him if I need a corner infielder or a late-season power boost.

Steve Pearce swats 13th home run Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Orioles first baseman Steve Pearce went 1 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 4-3 win over the White Sox Wednesday.

Pearce has started to heat back up over the last four games, going 7 for 18 with four doubles and two home runs. He hadn't managed a multi-hit performance since July 19 before his current stretch. Pearce owns a .289/.353/.520 line with 13 home runs and 34 RBI in 256 at-bats.

Steve Pearce showing signs of life
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Back in June, Steve Pearce was one of the hottest pickups off the waiver wire, seemingly joining J.D. Martinez in shedding the Quadruple-A label with a .361 batting average, five home runs and 1.099 OPS for the month. In May and June combined, he hit .336 (47 for 140) with nine home runs and a 1.033 OPS.

His season took a sharp turn thereafter, his ownership rate plummeting from 77 to 23 percent as he hit just .173 (14 for 81) from July 5 to Aug. 16. The Orioles lost faith, routinely sitting him for David Lough and Delmon Young, and all hope seemed lost for the 31-year-old journeyman.

But I ended that stretch at Aug. 16 for a reason. In two games since, he's 5 for 10 with three doubles and a homer. It's a laughably small sample size, but given what he provided in the weeks leading up to it, it stands out. And particularly if you play in a standard Rotisserie league, where each team starts five outfielders and a third corner infielder, you may want to make a move for him depending how his next couple games go.

Given his minor-league track record, which includes a career .294 batting average and .893 OPS as well as a 31-homer season in 2007, I think he could go the way of Brandon Moss, another minor-league slugger presumed to be a Quadruple-A player until a team finally gave him an extended look. Of course, the Orioles will have to stick with Pearce for him to have that chance, but I wouldn't dismiss him just yet.

Steve Pearce ends home run drought at 19 games
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Orioles outfielder/first baseman Steve Pearce ended his home run drought at 19 games during a 4-1 win Sunday at Cleveland. Pearce went 2 for 5 with one double and two runs.

Pearce connected for his first home run since July 10 when he hit a solo shot off C.C. Lee in the seventh inning. It was also his first RBI in 20 games. Pearce entered play Sunday mired in a 9-for-58 slump in his previous 19 games.
