Pirates' Gregory Polanco and Pedro Alvarez not starting Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

With a left-hander on the mound Wednesday, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has juggled his lineup for the matchup against the Phillies.

Left-handed batters Gregory Polanco and Pedro Alvarez are out of the lineup, while Corey Hart covers right field and Sean Rodriguez handles first base. Josh Harrison will move up to the leadoff spot in the order.

Second baseman Neil Walker is sliding down to the seventh spot in the lineup. This is the first time all season he has hit lower than sixth in the order.

Pirates' Polanco, Walker, Alvarez out of lineup Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Pirates are using Sunday to give several players a break from starting, as right fielder Gregory Polanco, second baseman Neil Walker and first baseman Pedro Alvarez are not in the lineup against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are sending a lefty to the mound, making it the first time in 10 games that the Pirates have faced a lefty starter. Polanco and Alvarez have been in the lineup for that entire stretch but also sat in the team's last game against a southpaw. The switch-hitting Walker also received last Sunday off from starting.

With the shakeup to the lineup, Josh Harrison will man second and return to the leadoff spot, while Jung Ho Kang will bat second and play third base.

The Pirates are favorites (-115) at home Sunday.

Pirates 2B Neil Walker mashes second homer in Saturday win
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Pirates second baseman Neil Walker hasn't exploded for any huge games this season. He just continues to hit consistently.

Walker has hit safely in 23 of 30 games, courtesy of a solo home run in the fifth inning Saturday against St. Louis that launched a comeback resulting in victory. He has a five-game hitting streak with four runs scored in the last three.

His slash line stands at a quite respectable .287/.350/.417.

Pirates 2B Neil Walker gets two hits in Thursday's win over Reds
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

After spending most of this season batting in the cleanup spot, Pirates second baseman Neil Walker has been hitting second the last two games for manager Clint Hurdle. And the move seems to be warranted.

On Thursday, Walker had two hits in three at-bats, walked twice and scored twice. He also stole his second bag of the season. Walker now has five hits in his last 16 at-bats.

But, after hitting 23 home runs in 2014, the power hasn't been there for Walker yet this season. He has just one home run on the year, so Hurdle has moved him out of the power-hitting spot in the lineup.

Pirates shuffle lineup Wednesday, drop Josh Harrison to seventh
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison is back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds but batting seventh for the first time this season.

Harrison led off in 20 of the team's first 21 games, only getting one game off from starting. After his next day off, he was slotted second Friday and left in the spot for three games. Harrison was off again Tuesday and now returns in the bottom third of the order. He has hit just .188/.220/.313 with two home runs and six RBI in 96 at-bats.

With Harrison dropped in the lineup, second baseman Neil Walker has been moved up to the No. 2 spot in the lineup, while the team's regular fifth-through-seventh hitters have been bumped up a spot, with left fielder Starling Marte landing in the cleanup role.

The Pirates are favorites (-160) against the Reds Wednesday with Gerrit Cole on the mound.
