Mets' Neil Walker: Could see at-bats in leadoff spot
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Walker (back) will get consideration as the Mets' leadoff hitter this season on days when Jose Reyes isn't in the lineup, The New York Post reports.

He didn't hit any higher than second last season for the Mets, and in his career Walker has only eight at-bats from the leadoff spot, but the Mets don't really have any ideal options for the top of the order in their standard starting eight. With Reyes stuck in a super-utility role, however, the team will need someone else to handle the job, and if Walker (career .339 OBP) sees significant action as the leadoff hitter, he could see a slight uptick in runs scored.

Mets' Neil Walker: Extension talks die down
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Contract extension talks between the Mets and Walker (back) appear to be dead, Mike Puma of the NY Post reports.

The sticking point in talks between the two sides is how to restructure the first year of the deal, freeing up money for the Mets thus season. The two sides could restart discussions at some point, but for now, negotiations between the Mets and Walker look to be on the back burner.

Mets' Neil Walker: Close to signing three-year extension
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

The Mets and Walker (back) may be close to reaching an agreement on a three-year deal worth approximately $40 million, SNY.TV reports, though Marc Carig of Newsday indicates a contract extension isn't imminent.

Walker, who accepted the Mets' one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer in November, was close to inking a similar deal at the time, but he took the tender instead, giving the two sides more time to talk. New York has very little second base depth in the organization, having dealt Dilson Herrera to the Reds in the Jay Bruce deal; T.J. Rivera or Gavin Cecchini (if he transitioned to the keystone position) would likely be next in line. Walker is coming off a career year and has expressed his desire to remain in New York.

Mets' Neil Walker: Takes qualifying offer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker (back) accepted the Mets' one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

This was one of the more intriguing stories to watch given Walker's back surgery in September, but ultimately he decided to stick around for at least another season in the Big Apple. The 31-year-old will likely take over as the Mets' primary second baseman once he's back to full health once again as he looks to build off of his 23-home run season he posted in 113 games last year.

Mets' Neil Walker: Receives qualifying offer from Mets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Walker (back) received a qualifying offer from the Mets on Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

This situation will be an interesting one to follow given the fact that Walker is coming off of back surgery he underwent in September. There hasn't been an indication about whether he plans to accept the offer or not, although it is worth noting that his market value will decrease now that a draft pick will need to be sacrificed in order to sign him.
