Ronda Rousey wants a shot at Cris 'Cyborg,' but there's one issue in the way
The former UFC women's bantamweight champ wants a shot at one of the best
It's been an historic week for UFC and president Dana White. The organization announced its main event for UFC 205, the first MMA pay-per-view in New York City with Conor McGregor taking on Eddie Alvarez.
In addition, it sounds like UFC superstar Ronda Rousey may be getting closer to a return. White is hoping for Rousey to return before the end of 2016, but noted that Rousey wants to fight Brazilian knockout artist Cris 'Cyborg' Justino.
"Ronda wants to fight her. They'd have to figure out at what weight they'd fight, but Ronda wants that fight," White said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast this week.
Rousey has been out of action since losing to Holly Holm in November 2015. Cyborg is coming off of her second UFC win, scoring a second-round TKO of Lina Lansberg on Saturday.
Rousey and Cyborg have beefed through the media in the past, with Rousey accusing Cyborg of taking steroids after she failed a drug test in 2011. At that point, Rousey said the fight would only take place at 135 pounds. Then, after scoring her first UFC win in May, Cyborg called Rousey out for a match using the Running Man Challenge.
However, Cyborg's last two fights in the octagon have taken place at a catchweight of 140, still 15 pounds below her normal fighting weight of 155. Cyborg had to cut 20 pounds in a week in order to make the 141-pound limit last week.
White thinks weight will be the biggest sticking point for making the bout happen, but believes both sides will come to an agreement.
It would be the biggest women's MMA fight in history for sure, but something tells me this is going to have a Mayweather-Pacquiao feel to it for a while as they negotiate a deal.
