Michigan track record for Marcos Ambrose
BROOKLYN, Mich. - Marcos Ambrose set a Michigan International Speedway track qualifying record in winning the pole for Sunday's Quicken Loans 400.
Ambrose toured the two-mile speedway with a lap of 203.241 mph to earn his first career Sprint Cup Series pole.
It was the third fastest qualifying lap in NASCAR history behind Cale Yarborough and Bill Elliott.
Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman were the fast five.
Matt Kenseth, Trevor Bayne, Tony Stewart, Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top 10.
Sprint Cup teams will now have an added practice session Saturday night to work in the new Goodyear left side tires the manufacturer has brought to the track to combat a blistering problem that arose during practice on Friday.
