Durant says OKC players won't watch film from Game 6 collapse vs. Warriors
Losers of two straight, Kevin Durant and the Thunder remain confident heading into Game 7 at the Oracle
Losing to the Golden State Warriors at home for the first time in the Western Conference finals on Saturday, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder have to now head on the road to play a win-or-go-home. Golden State now seemingly has the momentum heading into Game 7 and have also been stellar at home all season. But the Thunder aren't worried in the least bit.
Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Durant said that the Thunder's spirits remain high despite losing two straight and failing to close out the series at home to advance to the NBA Finals.
"If we walk in here like it's a funeral, then we already lost," Durant said via the Norman Transcript's Fred Katz about his team's practice on Sunday. "Nobody walked in like that. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. [The Warriors] aren't going to feel sorry for us, and whoever is covering the game, fans, nobody's feeling sorry for us. It's just a part of basketball. Guys walked in here are really confident. We were upset we lost, but we let that go. We gotta get ready for Game 7."
Failing to protect their lead and losing Game 6 at home was definitely a blow to the Thunder. That may have been their best opportunity to close out the series and Durant also had a poor performance offensively, missing 21 shots out of 31 and going 1-of-8 from 3-point land. Yet it wouldn't do Durant and Thunder any good if they dwell on the loss. According to Durant, OKC players didn't even watch any film of Game 6, and they are that confident heading towards Monday's game.
"We didn't look at video." Durant said via Katz. "We know all about this team, like I said yesterday. We know all about this team. We know what we have to do. It's just a matter of us going out there and playing with extreme effort and leaving it all out there and feeling confident that we can get in there and get this done. I think all the guys feel confident."
The Warriors though, also feel confident. Their backs were against the walls and they've responded to the challenge, winning two straight thanks in large part to the revitalization of the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. When both Thompson and Curry get it going, the Warriors are incredibly hard to stop. A fact not lost on the Thunder but something they will attempt to do in Game 7.
