Tim Duncan quietly retired from the NBA as the Spurs announced the major news in a simple press release, Duncan didn't even speak with the media about his retirement, instead he posted a letter to the fans on the Spurs' website and sat down for a lengthy radio interview with a good friend.

However, taking into account how Duncan has conducted himself throughout his future Hall-of-Fame career -- quiet and unassuming -- the way he retired isn't too shocking. Which is why wanting to properly honor Duncan with some well-deserved recognition, San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor officially declared that July 21, 2016 will be "Tim Duncan Day."

Duncan may have wanted to retire with little-to-no fanfare yet the city of San Antonio is clearly celebrating his greatness and thanking him for all he's done for the Spurs on their own.
