Since he played his last NBA game in 2014, they have been plenty of rumors about Ray Allen making a return. Usually championship-contending teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers have been linked to Allen, but it seems like the sharp shooter is becoming a bit flexible on who he would be willing to play for.

Speaking with the Hartford Courant, Allen says he has talked with the Celtics about possibly making a return to Boston. Besides for the Celtics, the Spurs, Bucks, Knicks and Clippers could also be in play.

The Spurs and Clippers have been mentioned, also, but Allen said he has spoken with the Celtics, with whom he won a championship in 2008, and the Bucks, his first NBA stop.

"I would love going back to those places if it worked out," Allen said, "because both teams are good, too. It doesn't necessarily have to be championship-or-bust for me to go back to the NBA.

"I want to be in a situation where I thought I could help, play a little bit and help where they have good young talent."

Allen, who lives much of the time in Miami, has opened a restaurant called Grown, said he is not yet sure what direction the Heat are taking. How about the Knicks? "Spike Lee has been trying to recruit me," Allen said. "We've been texting."

...

A young rebuilding team is unlikely, because, Allen said, "then I might as well coach." He expects to make a decision by the start of training camp, rather than look to join a team in midseason.

"At the start of the year, if nothing pans out, then basically I'll retire," he said.

Allen is 41 years old so it may be a bit too late for him to come back and actually play a role on a team. He hasn't played in the NBA in two years. However, Allen does keep himself in tip-top shape and if his jumper is still on point, he could be a solid player in a limited role for a handful of teams.

He does sound pretty serious about wanting to be part of a competitive team. Winning another championship ring is not Allen's main motivation. It is important to note that Allen says if no team signs him before the start of the year, he will finally officially retire.
