With backup running back and key contributor Karlos Williams suspended for the first four games of the season, the Bills are in need of some depth at the position behind LeSean McCoy. They might find that depth in the form of a Heisman Trophy winner (well, before they took it away from him).

CBS Sports' NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports the Bills are favored to sign Reggie Bush.

Bush last played for the 49ers, but his 2015 season was cut short when he tore his ACL on the concrete surrounding the Rams' former field in St. Louis. Prior to that injury, Bush didn't experience much success. In five games, he carried the ball just eight times for 28 yards and caught four passes for 19 yards. On special teams, he returned two punts for nine yards.

Bush's last productive season came with the Lions in 2013, when he hit the 1,000 yard mark on the ground and racked up more than 500 receiving yards. However, given his age (31) and his most recent knee injury, it's tough to expect him to serve as anything more than a complement to McCoy. Replacing Willams' production -- nine total touchdowns in 11 games -- also won't be easy.

It seems strange to say, but if Bush signs with the Bills, he'll be onto his fifth team since entering the league in 2006 as the No. 2 overall pick. There's no way anyone could've predicted that when he came out of USC as one of the best college players in the history of the game.
