Miles Austin has one catch in Cleveland debut
by Igor Mello |

Browns wide receiver Miles Austin made his preseason debut with his new club Saturday night against the Lions.

Austin was unable to come down with a short, sliding catch near the sideline during the second drive of the night. On the third drive, Austin dropped a crucial catch within the 5-yard line. He redeemed himself a play later and caught a slant for a gain of 13 yards.

Austin worked with the first-team offense for four series and finished on catch for 13 yards and three targets.

Coach praises Miles Austin for Saturday work
by Marty Gitlin |

Mike Pettine has praised Browns veteran wide receiver Miles Austin for his performance at practice Saturday, per WKNR-AM. He also expressed encouragement regarding other players at that position, perhaps as he braces for the impending drug suspension of top wideout Josh Gordon.

Austin is hoping to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2013 in which he was limited to eight starts, 24 catches, 244 yards and no touchdowns. He is at this point the team's most accomplished wide receiver.

Miles Austin, Nate Burleson projected as starters
by Larry Hartstein |

With Josh Gordon likely to be suspended, the Browns are poised to enter the season with Miles Austin and Nate Burleson as their starting outside receivers and Andrew Hawkins in the slot, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The paper calls it "one of the NFL's most pedestrian receiving groups."

Austin has battled hamstring injuries and caught just 24 passes last year. Burleson, 32, has six touchdown catches over the past three years.

Hoyer has faith in Browns receiving corps
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer said he's confident in the team's receivers even if Josh Gordon is suspended for the year as expected, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

"Yeah, no doubt," he said. "I look at the guys that we have and I've talked about the guys I throw with but you throw in Nate Burleson, Anthony Armstrong -- I was shocked to know that he didn't play last year,'' said Hoyer. "If you watched him in our spring, he was awesome. Not to mention our tight ends and our skill guys. I feel really confident with who we have and going forward we know that we have what it takes to win games. We know that the guys that are on this team right now are what we're going to have for this season and that's what we're going with, and I feel confident with what we have."

Hoyer's top targets sans Gordon will be tight end Jordan Cameron and receivers Miles Austin, Andrew Hawkins, Burleson and Armstrong.
