by R.J. White |

Five injured Bears players will miss Monday's game against the Jets, according to the team's final injury report Saturday: linebacker Shea McClellin (hand), defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff (concussion), cornerback Sherrick McManis (quad) and offensive linemen Matt Slauson (ankle) and Roberto Garza (ankle).

In addition, defensive end Trevor Scott (foot) has been listed as doubtful. On the positive side, defensive end Jared Allen (back), safety Chris Conte (shoulder) and wide receiver Josh Morgan (groin) are listed as probable to play Monday.

Bears DST comes up big
by Larry Hartstein |

Overlooked after a poor Week 1 performance, the Bears DST came up big Sunday night at San Francisco. Chicago forced four turnovers by Colin Kaepernick, with rookie corner Kyle Fuller making two fourth-quarter interceptions.

Defensive end Jared Allen forced a fumble, safety Danny McCray recovering. Safety Chris Conte made his second interception of the season before leaving with a shoulder injury. Defensive end Willie Young led a strong pass rush with four sacks.

Riding a lot of momentum, the rejuvenated Bears DST visits the Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 3.

Jared Allen not planning to rotate snaps this season
by R.J. White |

Bears defensive end Jared Allen has no plans to reduce his workload with his new team after playing 91 percent of the Vikings' defensive snaps last season, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"If they don't rotate offensive linemen, why are they rotating me?" Allen said. "I am in much better shape than an offensive lineman. If I don't feel I can play an entire game, then I will retire. I am in great shape. My body feels great. The day I don't think I can play a full game, I'll be honest with myself and I will hang 'em up."

In addition to Allen, the Bears added two elite run-defending defensive ends in free agency and two potential rotational defensive tackles in the draft. The new-look Bears defensive line gets its first test Sunday at home against the Bills.

New personnel should help Bears DST in Week 1
by R.J. White |

The Bears revamped a terrible defensive line this offseason and brought in several defenders that should work wonders against the run. The new-look line will face a rush-centric test in Week 1 when the Bills come to town.

The Bills were a solid matchup for Fantasy DSTs last season, giving up the 12th-most average points in Fantasy. However, it may be difficult finding turnovers and sacks against them in Week 1, as the offense will likely commit to running the ball with C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson.

Luckily for the Bears, their rebuilt line now features the best two 4-3 defensive ends against the run last season in Lamarr Houston and Willie Young, per Pro Football Focus. If those guys can play at that same level in Week 1, it should force the Bills into third-and-long situations regularly, allowing Jared Allen to pin his ears back and get after E.J. Manuel, a guy with the second-highest sack percentage among starting quarterbacks when under pressure, per Football Focus.

While the Bears DST aren't a lock for a big Fantasy week, they represent a quietly-nice option in Week 1. Both Fantasy experts rank them in the top 10 this week, but they're only owned in roughly three out of every four leagues.
