Time to give up on Wes Welker?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer

Wes Welker was barely used in the Broncos win over the Jets in Week 6. And I mean he was barely used -- he had one catch on one target for 8 yards.

I thought he'd be more involved as a middle-of-the-field target against weak Jets inside cornerbacks. That didn't happen. What also hasn't happened is Welker finding the end zone -- in three games he's posted 14 catches for 126 yards and no scores. The difference between this game and the two prior were targets: He had nine in each of his past two.

It's pretty much a knee-jerk reaction to cut Welker from your Fantasy team based on his numbers on Sunday, but if you're in a standard league then you'll be hard pressed to have the confidence to start Welker anytime. If it's a small league (10 or fewer teams) then you could consider cutting him if someone off waivers who you can use right away. It's also okay to just bench him and wait and see what happens in the next few weeks but the Broncos face the 49ers, Chargers and Patriots in their next three. You might end up benching Welker when he finally breaks out, but we can't say with any confidence when that might be. Consider all options with Welker moving forward.

Broncos WR Wes Welker held to one catch Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The usual suspects piled up big numbers Sunday for the Broncos - but there was one exception. And that was wideout Wes Welker .

Welker caught just one pass for eight yards. He was also held without a touchdown for the third time in three games this season.

He will try to rectify that shortcoming against the 49ers next Sunday.

Wes Welker appears to have stable role
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

After missing the first two games of the season because of a failed drug test that came on the heels of a preseason marred by concussion issues, veteran wide receiver Wes Welker's place in the Broncos passing game was in some kind of doubt. But two games into his return, he's been as reliable for Peyton Manning underneath as he was last year.

His numbers in those two games were nearly identical, and not surprisingly, he had nine targets in each. At this stage of his career, the number of targets he gets will probably have the greatest say in his performance from week to week since most of those targets are high-percentage throws and he's not much of a threat to break a long one anymore. His role probably limits his potential for touchdowns, especially with tight end Julius Thomas dominating in the red zone, but back-to-back games with six-plus catches still matters to owners in points-per-reception leagues.

Welker looks like a worthy starter again in those formats even if he's more of a bench option in standard Fantasy leagues.

Broncos WR Wes Welker turns in solid game Week 5
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Broncos wideout Wes Welker turned in a solid game Week 5 against the Cardinals.

Welker hauled in seven passes, which was tied for second most on the club, but finished fourth on the team in yardage with 58 yards. Welker continued to be a solid dump-off option for Peyton Manning, but hasn't been a major threat in the end zone this year. He'll look for more Week 6 against the Jets.

Wes Welker has six grabs in first game back from suspension
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker checked in as the third receiver in the second quarter of Week 3 in Seattle, his first game back from suspension.

Welker caught passes for 3 and 9 yards on that drive for his only grabs in the first half. However, he bounced back and earned a bigger role in the aerial attack in the second half, receiving six targets in the final two quarters. Welker caught six of the eight passes thrown his way for 60 yards in a 26-20 overtime defeat.

The Broncos have a bye week, so Welker will get a full week of rest before squaring off at home against the Cardinals in Week 5.
