Top Red Wings News

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: In goal Thursday

Talbot will protect the road goal versus the Blue Jackets on Thursday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.

Talbot has lost his last three outings, giving up 11 goals on 68 shots in that 0-2-1 span. The 38-year-old will look to right the ship against Columbus, who has 16 goals scored while going 2-1-3 over the last six games.

  • Red Wings' Albert Johansson: Ends slump with assist

Johansson notched an assist and three blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

Johansson ended a 19-game point drought when he set up James van Riemsdyk's first-period goal. During that span, Johansson also carried a minus-14 rating. He's now at three assists, 22 shots on net, 27 hits, 33 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating over 27 appearances. While his place in the lineup is steady, the 24-year-old's lack of production across the board will keep him off most fantasy rosters.

  • Red Wings' Michael Rasmussen: Available for Thursday

Rasmussen (undisclosed) is expected to be available for Thursday's game against Columbus, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com on Wednesday.

Rasmussen left Tuesday's 5-4 victory over Boston because of the injury. He has four goals and eight points in 22 appearances this season. Rasmussen will likely maintain his spot in Detroit's bottom six.

  • Red Wings' Ben Chiarot: Pots goal Tuesday

Chiarot scored a goal on three shots and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

Chiarot is on a bit of a hot stretch for a shutdown defenseman, racking up four points over his last six outings. The blueliner is up to eight points, 34 shots on net, 63 hits, 59 blocked shots, 34 PIM and a plus-1 rating through 27 appearances this season. Chiarot won't sustain this pace, but his production in the physical categories has been higher than in recent years, which could have appeal in banger leagues.

  • Red Wings' James van Riemsdyk: Opens scoring Tuesday

Van Riemsdyk scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

Van Riemsdyk has scored three times over the last four games, though he's also been a scratch once in that span. He has frequently sat out one game of back-to-back sets since the Red Wings have enough forwards on the roster to rotate him out for rest. The 36-year-old winger is at four goals, one assist, 29 shots on net, 11 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 21 appearances in a bottom-six role.

  • Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Pockets two helpers Tuesday

Kane recorded two assists, one on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

The veteran winger had a hand in a Moritz Seider tally in the first period and what proved to be the game-winner by Lucas Raymond early in the third. Kane's return from an upper-body injury in early November has provided a boost to the entire Detroit offense, and over his last 11 games, he's collected a goal and 11 points.

  • Red Wings' Lucas Raymond: Two points including GWG

Raymond scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an even-strength assist in Tuesday's 5-4 victory over the Bruins.

After helping to set up a Ben Chiarot tally late in the second period, Raymond completed a tic-tac-toe passing play early in the third to give the Red Wings a 5-2 lead. The performance extended Raymond's point streak to six games. Over his last 12 contests, he's broken out for five goals and 17 points. Despite the surge in production, Raymond's power-play tally Tuesday was just his second of the season and his first since Oct. 11.

  • Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat: Two-point effort Tuesday

DeBrincat produced a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

Both points came early in the contest as the Red Wings raced out to a 3-0 lead. DeBrincat is up to 13 goals on the season, and nine of them have come in the last 11 games, a stretch in which the 27-year-old winger has racked up 13 points and 40 shots on net while lighting the lamp four times on the power play.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Three points in win over Boston

Seider scored a goal and added two assists, one on the power play, in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

After pacing the Red Wings to a 2-0 lead in the first period with a goal and an assist, Seider set up Lucas Raymond for what proved to be the game-winner early in the third. Seider has been superb over the last few weeks, amassing three goals, 13 points, 33 blocked shots, 30 shots on net, 17 PIM, 16 hits and a plus-4 rating in the last 11 games.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Hangs on for fifth win

Gibson made 34 saves in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Bruins.

Boston fired 18 shots at Gibson in the third period as the visitors tried to mount a comeback from a 5-2 deficit, but the veteran netminder was able to withstand the barrage. The win was Gibson's first since Oct. 28, and on the season he's 5-7-1 in 14 outings with a shaky 3.62 GAA and .868 save percentage.

  • Red Wings' Michael Rasmussen: Shaken up after hits

Rasmussen (undisclosed) didn't finish Tuesday's game versus the Bruins, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Head coach Todd McLellan didn't seem overly concerned about Rasmussen's status, but the forward will be checked on in the morning. He can be considered day-to-day for now, and an update on his status should be available prior to Thursday's game versus the Blue Jackets.

  • Red Wings' John Leonard: Honored for strong month

Leonard was named the AHL Player of the Month for November on Monday.

Leonard had nine goals and seven assists over 10 games for AHL Grand Rapids in November. He's been a massive performer this season with 24 points in 15 games to co-lead the AHL through the end of November. That's an effort that has helped the Griffins to a 16-1-0-1 record through 18 contests overall, the best record in the league. Leonard should be in consideration for a call-up if the Red Wings need a forward.

  • Red Wings' Mason Appleton: Out at least one week

Appleton is expected to be out for at least one week due to a lower-body injury, the team announced Tuesday.

Appleton had already been ruled out for Tuesday's game against Boston due to an undisclosed injury, but the nature of what he's dealing with is now slightly clearer. He'll seemingly miss at least the next four games, with an optimistic return date being Dec. 10 in Calgary.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: In goal Tuesday

Gibson will be between the home pipes Tuesday versus the Bruins, according to Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News.

Gibson hasn't won a game since Oct. 28 -- he's mired in a terrible stretch right now but will attempt to turn the tide Tuesday against a team missing some key players. Charlie McAvoy (face) and David Pastrnak (undisclosed) won't be available for the Bruins, which plays into Gibson's favor. Boston beat Detroit 3-2 in a shootout Saturday, but Cam Talbot was in goal for that game.

  • Red Wings' Mason Appleton: Won't play Tuesday

Appleton (undisclosed) won't be in the lineup against Boston on Tuesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Appleton didn't participate in Monday's practice, which was initially reported as a personal matter by Khan because his wife is expecting to give birth. In any event, Appleton won't play against the Bruins due to an injury and is day-to-day. He has collected three goals, nine points, 28 shots on net, 12 blocked shots and 28 hits across 26 appearances this season. Elmer Soderblom or Jonatan Berggren will replace Appleton in Tuesday's lineup.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Earns second shutout of AHL season

Cossa posted a 26-save shutout in AHL Grand Rapids' 1-0 win over Iowa on Sunday.

Cossa is up to two shutouts this season and five in his career. The 23-year-old netminder has dominated the AHL this year with an 8-1-0 record, a 1.56 GAA and a .942 save percentage in nine games. He's done everything he can at this point to earn a call-up, and continued strong play could help him push for regular NHL minutes as soon as 2026-27.
