What to Know
A Pac-12 battle is on tap between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Washington State Cougars at 10 p.m. ET this past Saturday at Wallis Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. Both teams looked pretty sloppy on the offensive side of the ball the last time they faced off, scoring just 80 points combined.
ASU has to be hurting after a devastating 87-64 loss at the hands of the Washington Huskies this past Thursday. The Sun Devils got double-digit scores from four players: forward Kimani Lawrence (15), forward Jalen Graham (14), guard Marreon Jackson (12), and guard Jay Heath (10). This also makes it three games in a row in which Marreon Jackson has had at least three steals.
Meanwhile, the contest between Washington State and the Arizona Wildcats this past Thursday was not a total blowout, but with the Cougars falling 72-60 at home, it was darn close to turning into one. One thing holding Washington State back was the mediocre play of guard Tyrell Roberts, who did not have his best game: he finished with only eight points on 3-for-11 shooting in his 29 minutes on the court.
ASU is the clear underdog, so they're hoping it's the size of the fight that determines this one. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 8-2-2 against the spread when expected to lose.
ASU is now 7-15 while Washington State sits at 14-8. Two stats to keep an eye on: The Sun Devils have only been able to knock down 38.90% percent of their shots, which is the 350th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. The Cougars' defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 39.90%, which places them 29th in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.
