What to Know

The St. John's Red Storm and the Marquette Golden Eagles will face off in a Big East clash at 8 p.m. ET Dec. 29 at Carnesecca Arena. The teams split their matchups last year, with Marquette winning the first 73-71 on the road and the Red Storm taking the second 75-73.

It was close but no cigar for St. John's as they fell 59-57 to the Pittsburgh Panthers two weeks ago. If the result catches you off guard, it should: St. John's was far and away the favorite. One thing holding St. John's back was the mediocre play of guard Montez Mathis, who did not have his best game: he played for 28 minutes but put up just four points on 2-for-10 shooting.

Meanwhile, Marquette came up short against the Connecticut Huskies last Tuesday, falling 78-70. Forward Justin Lewis (20 points) was the top scorer for the Golden Eagles.
