An Atlantic 10 battle is on tap between the George Mason Patriots and the VCU Rams at 4 p.m. ET Saturday at EagleBank Arena. The teams split their matchups last year, with VCU winning the first 66-61 on the road and GMU taking the second 79-76.

The Richmond Spiders typically have all the answers at home, but on Wednesday the Patriots proved too difficult a challenge. GMU narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Richmond 87-84. GMU got double-digit scores from four players: guard D'Shawn Schwartz (24), forward Josh Oduro (22), guard Xavier Johnson (17), and guard Devon Cooper (11). D'Shawn Schwartz's performance made up for a slower matchup against the Spiders in the teams' previous meeting earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Rhode Island Rams typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday VCU proved too difficult a challenge. VCU bagged a 73-64 victory. Guard KeShawn Curry was the offensive standout of the game for VCU, picking up 28 points along with five boards.

Barring any buzzer beaters, GMU is expected to win a tight contest. They have been good against the spread at home while VCU has been good against the spread on the road, so something will have to give.

Their wins bumped the Patriots to 12-10 and VCU to 15-7. In George Mason's win, Josh Oduro dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds in addition to five assists and Schwartz shot 6-for-11 from beyond the arc and finished with 24 points. We'll see if VCU have a strategy for dealing with them or if they lead their team to another successful outing.
