What to Know
The Virginia Cavaliers are 8-0 against the Clemson Tigers since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Wednesday. Virginia and Clemson will face off in an ACC battle at 7 p.m. ET at John Paul Jones Arena. These two teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
The Cavaliers simply couldn't be stopped this past Saturday, as they easily beat the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at home 82-49. Virginia's forward Jayden Gardner was one of the most active players for the squad, picking up 29 points along with six boards.
Meanwhile, while not quite a landslide, the contest between Clemson and the South Carolina Gamecocks this past Saturday was still a pretty decisive one as Clemson wrapped it up with a 70-56 win at home. Clemson can attribute much of their success to forward Hunter Tyson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, and forward PJ Hall, who had 16 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.
Barring any buzzer beaters, Virginia is expected to win a tight contest. But bettors beware: they are only 3-6 against the spread when favored.
The wins brought the Cavaliers up to 7-4 and the Tigers to 8-4. A pair of stats to keep an eye on: Virginia comes into the matchup boasting the 16th fewest turnovers per game in college basketball at 10.2. Less enviably, Clemson is stumbling into the game with the 48th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 11.6 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked against Clemson.
