Montrell Johnson: Joins Carolina's practice squad
Johnson signed with the Panthers' practice squad Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Johnson was cut from the Cardinals' practice squad in early December, but it didn't take long for him to find a new home in Carolina. The Florida product has yet to make his NFL debut after posting 593 rushing yards, 64 receiving yards and six total touchdowns during his final collegiate season in 2024.

Montrell Johnson: Cut from practice squad
The Cardinals cut Johnson from the practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Johnson caught on with the Cardinals' practice squad this past Wednesday after being without a team for nearly three months. His stint with Arizona will end up lasting less than a week after he was let go from the practice squad, and he'll look to catch on with a team in need of backfield depth. The undrafted rookie has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

Montrell Johnson: Back with Philly
Johnson signed with the Eagles' practice squad on Monday.
Johnson was waived by the Eagles in late August after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster, but it now appears that he'll remain in Philadelphia on the practice squad. The Florida product flashed throughout the preseason, rushing for 77 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries. He could be elevated to the Eagles' active roster if the running back room is plagued by injuries later this year.

Montrell Johnson: Waived by Philly
Johnson was waived by the Eagles on Tuesday.
Johnson impressed during the preseason, producing 77 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while also adding two kickoff returns for 47 yards over two contests. The running back signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in April after a collegiate career at Florida, and if he clears waivers, he may stick around as a member of the team's practice squad.

Eagles' Montrell Johnson: Leading rusher in preseason loss
Johnson carried the ball six times for 20 yards in Saturday's 22-13 preseason loss to the Browns.
The undrafted rookie out of Florida missed time at the end of training camp due to a minor hamstring strain, but Johnson suited up Saturday and was the second running back into the game for the Eagles after AJ Dillon. Johnson ended up leading Philadelphia in rushing yards on a poor day overall for the offense, although he failed to convert a two-point conversion late in the second quarter, but the most important takeaway was that he showed he was healthy. He's unlikely to crack the gameday roster for Week 1, but given their similar early-down skill sets, Johnson could find himself stashed on the practice squad in case Dillon isn't able to stay on the field after he missed the entire 2024 campaign with Green Bay due to neck issues.

Eagles' Montrell Johnson: Not practicing Saturday
Johnson (hamstring) will be sidelined for Saturday's training camp practice, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Johnson is working through a hamstring injury, which forced him to observe Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals from the sidelines. He signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in late April, so an extended absence hurts his chances of making the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. Johnson will focus on getting back on the practice field and being available for the Eagles' second preseason game against the Browns on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Eagles' Montrell Johnson: Working through hamstring injury
Johnson did not participate in Sunday's training camp practice due to a hamstring injury, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Reps in practice are important for players like Johnson, who is competing for a backfield depth spot on the Eagles' 53-man roster after signing as an undrafted free agent in late April. He'll focus on recovering from his injury in order to be available for the Eagles' preseason opener against the Bengals on Thursday.

Montrell Johnson: Set to join Philadelphia
Johnson is slated to sign with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Johnson played for Florida for the past three seasons, and 2022 was arguably his most productive year, as he finished with 155 carries for 841 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 12 catches for 58 yards and another score. He runs physically through defenders and isn't shy to work between the tackles, but his lack of production as a pass-catching back could limit his trajectory at the NFL level. Assuming he signs with the Eagles, Johnson would compete for a depth spot at running back behind Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley and AJ Dillon.
