Cam Ward TEN QB
Titans' Cam Ward: 'Doing well' with recovery
1h agoGM Mike Borgonzi said Thursday that Ward currently is rehabbing his right shoulder and is "doing well," Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Ward made an early exit from Tennessee's Week 18 loss at Jacksonville due to a right shoulder injury, which was revealed to be an AC joint sprain in the aftermath of the contest, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Borgonzi also told Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com that Ward doesn't have a specific timeline for his recovery, so it's unclear if he'll be healthy when OTAs kick off in May. As the first overall pick in the 2025 Draft, Ward started all 17 regular-season games as a rookie, completing 323 of 540 passes (59.8 percent) for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions, rushing 39 times for 159 yards and two more TDs and fumbling 11 times (seven lost).

Harold Landry NE LB
Patriots' Harold Landry: Doesn't practice Thursday
2h agoLandry (knee) was absent from Thursday's practice, Mike Kadlick of CLNSMedia.com reports.
The first-year Patriot missed the AFC Championship win over the Broncos due to a knee injury, and Thursday's DNP suggests he's still nursing the issue. Landry was one of New England's most productive edge rushers in 2025, recording 49 total tackles, including 8.5 sacks, and one forced fumble across 15 regular-season contests. He likely needs to practice in a limited capacity at some point over the next week in order to play in the Super Bowl LX matchup against the Seahawks on Sunday, Feb. 8.

Robert Spillane NE LB
Patriots' Robert Spillane: Misses Thursday's practice
2h agoSpillane (ankle) was absent from Thursday's practice, Mike Kadlick of CLNSMedia.com reports.
The 30-year-old from Western Michigan sustained an ankle injury early in the AFC Championship Game win over the Broncos. Spillane is a crucial portion of the Patriots' linebacker corps, recording 97 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and five passes defensed, including two interceptions, over 13 regular-season games in 2025. He likely needs to upgrade to limited practice at some point over the next week in order to suit up for the Super Bowl LX matchup against the Seahawks on Sunday, Feb. 8.

Drake Maye NE QB
Patriots' Drake Maye: Not seen throwing Thursday
2h agoMaye (shoulder) did not participate in throwing drills during the portion of Thursday's practice open to the media, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Maye was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report due to a right shoulder issue and seems destined for a similar designation Thursday. Head coach Mike Vrabel said Thursday that there's "not much" concern about Maye's shoulder injury, per Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site, and Ben Volin of The Boston Globe reports that Vrabel confirmed the issue was sustained during Sunday's 10-7 win over the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game. New England may simply intend to use the first half of their two-week practice period in advance of Super Bowl LX against the Seahawks on Sunday, Feb. 8 to allow their key starters some rest. If Maye doesn't begin to ramp up his activity level at practice Friday, expect him to do so next week.

Michael Penix Jr. ATL QB
Falcons' Michael Penix: Expects to be ready for Week 1
3h agoPenix (knee) said Wednesday he "look[s] forward to being back Week 1," but he added "we'll see" and noted that Atlanta's medical staff will have "the last word" on his recovery timetable, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Penix mentioned his familiarity with the process of rehabbing from ACL tears, as he suffered similar injuries twice during his collegiate career, both to his right knee. Currently, Penix is rehabbing from a torn left ACL for which he underwent surgery Nov. 25, roughly 9.5 months prior to Week 1 of the 2026 campaign. That places Week 1 squarely within the typical 9-to-12-month recovery timetable for ACL tears, albeit on the earlier end of the scale. Per Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site, new head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Tuesday that Penix already has resumed "attacking his rehab" at the team's training facility. Stefanski expressed excitement about Penix as "a young player who will continue to develop and continue to get better." Meanwhile, veteran Kirk Cousins is the only other quarterback under contract with Atlanta for 2026, though he reworked his deal with the team in early January in a maneuver that likely will result in either another restructure or his release prior to March 13, per Field Yates of ESPN.

Josh Allen BUF QB
Bills' Josh Allen: Facing 8-to-10-week recovery
3h agoAllen is facing a recovery timetable between eight and 10 weeks after undergoing surgery to address a broken bone in his right foot, which puts him on track for the start of OTAs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Allen was spotted with crutches and wearing a walking boot on his right foot Thursday. Per Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News, Allen stated that he underwent surgery to address an avulsion of the fifth metatarsal in his foot that he played through down the stretch of the 2025 campaign, and Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports that the injury is older in origin but was aggravated versus Cleveland in Week 16. In the wake of Buffalo's win over Jacksonville in the wild-card round, Allen also dealt with left knee and right finger injuries this season, but it doesn't appear those will hamper him this offseason. It's encouraging that Allen is expected to be healthy well in advance of OTAs in May, as following the dismissal of Sean McDermott and hiring of Joe Brady, the 29-year-old quarterback will have to adjust to a new head coach for the first time in his NFL career.

Mickey Gasper WAS 1B
Nationals' Mickey Gasper: Removed from 40-man roster
1h agoThe Nationals designated Gasper for assignment Thursday.
The move frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Richard Lovelady, who was claimed off waivers. Gasper was also a waiver claim of the Nationals just last week and could be on the move to another organization. He's a career .133/.250/.195 hitter over 58 career games in the majors but will have appeal due to his ability to play catcher, first base, second base and left field.
-
Richard Lovelady NYM RP
Nationals' Richard Lovelady: Claimed by Nationals
1h agoThe Nationals claimed Lovelady off waivers from the Mets on Thursday.
Lovelady struggled to find his footing in the majors in 2025, finishing the year with an 8.49 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through 11.2 innings. Triple-A was a different story, however, as he logged a 1.66 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 38 frames. He'll compete for a spot in Washington's Opening Day bullpen during spring training.
-
Robby Snelling MIA SP
Marlins' Robby Snelling: Given spring training invite
2h agoThe Marlins have extended Snelling an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.
It was a bit surprising Snelling wasn't called up late last season, given that he finished with a 1.27 ERA and 81:17 K:BB over 63.2 innings after being promoted to Triple-A Jacksonville. He does, however, have a good chance to break camp in the major-league rotation after the Marlins traded away Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers. Snelling -- who was acquired from the Padres at the 2024 trade deadline in a deal that sent Tanner Scott to San Diego -- finished with a 2.51 ERA and 166:39 K:BB across 136 frames covering 25 starts between Double-A Pensacola and Jacksonville in 2025.
-
Thomas White MIA SP
Marlins' Thomas White: Joining Marlins in MLB camp
2h agoThe Marlins have extended White an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.
White is only 21 and has made just two starts at the Triple-A level, so he's likely to begin the 2026 season back in the minors as he continues working on his control. That said, the lefty is one of the most exciting young pitching prospects in baseball and has a good chance to debut at some point during the upcoming season. White collected a 2.31 ERA with a whopping 145 strikeouts (and 51 walks) over 89.2 innings across three minor-league stops in 2025.
-
Daniel Johnson BAL CF
Marlins' Daniel Johnson: Signs with Marlins as NRI
2h agoThe Marlins signed Johnson to a minor-league contract Dec. 29 that includes an invitation to spring training.
Johnson received 57 plate appearances between the Giants and Orioles in 2025, finishing with a .548 OPS. The 30-year-old can handle all three outfield spots and will provide experienced depth at Triple-A Jacksonville, barring his surprising inclusion on the Opening Day roster.
-
Samuel Basallo BAL C
Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Slims down over winter
2h agoBasallo said at the Orioles' recent Birdland Caravan fan event that he's lost around 15 pounds this offseason, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Listed at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, Basallo could afford to slim down a bit without sacrificing the massive power that's helped propel him to being one of the most exciting young hitters in baseball. The 21-year-old is locked into an Opening Day roster spot after signing an eight-year, $67 million contract extension six days into his big-league career. Where the playing time will come from is less of a sure thing, as the Orioles have Adley Rutschman at catcher and Pete Alonso at first base. Settling in at designated hitter is Basallo's most likely path, but he will get starts in the field, as well.

Jalen Johnson ATL SF
Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Won't play Thursday
2m agoJohnson is out for Thursday's game against the Rockets due to left calf tightness, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
After playing 33 minutes during Wednesday's 117-106 victory over Boston, the star forward is sitting out the second half of this back-to-back. With Onyeka Okongwu (face) also ruled out, the Hawks are likely to ask more of Corey Kispert and Luke Kennard in the frontcourt Thursday.
-
Aaron Gordon DEN PF
Nuggets' Aaron Gordon: Out 4-to-6 weeks
22m agoGordon (hamstring) will be re-evaluated in 4-to-6 weeks, Shams Charania of ESPN reported Thursday.
This is a brutal blow for Denver and for Gordon's fantasy managers. If he's re-evaluated at the front end of this timetable, a return against the Thunder on Feb. 27 would be the best-case scenario. In Gordon's absence, Peyton Watson will likely take on a larger role, and Spencer Jones and Bruce Brown could see more run as well.
-
Franz Wagner ORL PF
Magic's Franz Wagner: Another absence coming
28m agoWagner is out for Friday's game against the Raptors due to left ankle injury management, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Wagner's absence will be a fifth straight Friday. The Magic appear to be taking a cautious approach with the star forward, who isn't taking contact in practice as he tries to get the injury fully resolved. Anthony Black has thrived in 2025-26 and remains locked into the starting lineup at least until Wagner is finally ready to return.
-
Duop Reath POR C
Trail Blazers' Duop Reath: Undergoes season-ending surgery
40m agoThe Trail Blazers announced Thursday that Reath has undergone season-ending right foot surgery.
Reath was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right foot, which required surgery, and his 2025-26 campaign is now over. Before going down, the 29-year-old big man averaged 2.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 8.1 minutes per contest through games this season. With Reath now done for the year, Robert Williams is in line to serve as Portland's primary backup at center behind Donovan Clingan the rest of the way.
-
Jalen Green PHO SG
Suns' Jalen Green: Sitting out Thursday
2h agoGreen is out for Thursday's game against the Pistons due to right hamstring injury management.
Green just can't seem to get past the injury that's troubled him since training camp, and the Suns continue to exercise caution with the star guard. Until Green finally gets back up to speed, Jordan Goodwin should continue to take on a more prominent role in the Phoenix backcourt. Jamaree Bouyea should remain in the mix as well.
-
RJ Barrett TOR SG
Raptors' RJ Barrett: Still has minutes restriction
2h agoBarrett had 14 points (3-13 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 7-8 FT), eight rebounds and three assists over 24 minutes during Wednesday's 119-92 loss to the Knicks.
Barrett remained on a minutes restriction Wednesday, per Esfandiar Baraheni of The Athletic, and he continued to show signs of rust as he works way back from a recent lengthy absence with a left ankle sprain. The star forward has averaged 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 22.3 minutes per contest in his last three games since getting back onto the floor, shooting just 38.2 percent from the field.
-
Sheldon Dries DET C
Red Wings' Sheldon Dries: Called up by Detroit
3m agoDries was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Thursday.
Dries spent nearly a week with the NHL club earlier in January, but he hasn't yet appeared in a game for the Red Wings this season. However, Dries and Justin Holl were recalled Thursday to provide additional depth ahead of the Olympic break after Simon Edvinsson (lower body) was placed on injured reserve.
-
Justin Holl DET D
Red Wings' Justin Holl: Recalled Thursday
4m agoHoll was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Thursday.
Simon Edvinsson (lower body) isn't expected to be available until after the Olympic break and was put on injured reserve in a corresponding move, so calling up Holl gives the Red Wings another healthy blueliner. The 33-year-old Holl has two goals and 10 points in 31 outings with Grand Rapids this season. He's a veteran of 396 career regular-season appearances in the NHL, but he hasn't played at the top level yet this campaign.
-
Ross Colton COL C
Avalanche's Ross Colton: Ready to return
18m agoColton (lower body) is good to play Thursday in Montreal, per Conor McGahey of Altitude TV.
Colton missed three straight games due to the injury. He has five goals and 20 points in 48 appearances in 2025-26. Colton's return is expected to result in Taylor Makar being a healthy scratch Thursday.
-
Jordan Greenway BUF LW
Sabres' Jordan Greenway: Set to miss another game
2h agoGreenway (lower body) is slated to miss Thursday's game against the Kings, NHL.com reports.
Greenway has been on a load management plan recently after his sports hernia surgery that he underwent during the offseason, and he'll be unavailable for a third consecutive game. It's not yet clear when he'll return to action, but his next opportunity to do so will be Saturday against Montreal.
-
Anthony Stolarz TOR G
Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz: In goal versus Kraken
2h agoStolarz will get the starting nod for Thursday's road clash with Seattle, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports.
In his first game back from a long-term, upper-body injury, Stolarz gave up five goals on 30 shots (.833 save percentage). It was a less-than-stellar performance, but getting the netminder some work before the Olympic break certainly makes sense. The Maple Leafs head into a back-to-back versus Calgary and Edmonton on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, so Stolarz figures to get one of those games as well.
-
Hugh McGing STL LW
Blues' Hugh McGing: Heads to AHL
2h agoMcGing was reassigned to AHL Springfield on Thursday.
Matt Luff was also sent to the minors, and Oskar Sundqvist (ankle) was taken off injured reserve in corresponding moves. McGing has a goal and an assist in three outings with St. Louis this campaign. The 27-year-old also has four goals, 12 points and 40 PIM in 35 outings with Springfield in 2025-26.
