The Cardinals have selected Walker with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 first-year player draft.
A physically imposing 6-foot-5, 220-pound prep third baseman from Georgia, Walker has some of the most raw power in this class, but his hit tool and ability to stick at the hot corner are in question. Walker's maximum exit velocity and bat speed both rank in the 98th percentile in his class, according to Perfect Game. The lower-body mechanics in his swing need to be improved, and pro instruction could aid him in that regard. Even if he develops sound mechanics, some swing and miss will likely always be there, given his XXL frame. He has a cannon of an arm, which could allow him to profile in right field if he outgrows third base.
