Venable was signed by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
The addition of Venable brings a much-needed left-handed bat into the Dodgers' outfield rotation. With Andre Ethier sidelined since spring training, Joc Pederson was the Dodgers' lone lefty outfielder through the opening third of the season. Venable struggled during his time with the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate earlier this season, slashing just .205/.304/.307 through 127 at-bats before opting out Friday. The Dodgers optioned Austin Barnes to Triple-A Oklahoma City to clear a roster spot for Venable.
