Orioles' Jason Garcia: Sent to Triple-A

Garcia was optioned Wednesday to Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

After making the Orioles' Opening Day roster as a Rule 5 pickup in 2015, Garcia was sent back to the minors to develop as a starter last season, spending the entire campaign with Double-A Bowie. He ended up compiling an uninspiring 4.73 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 123.2 innings for Bowie, so it's not surprising that he didn't receive much consideration for a 25-man roster spot this spring. The 24-year-old figures to hold down a rotation role for Norfolk to begin 2017.
