Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico is among the elite MMA training gyms in the world. Operated by Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn, the gym boasts an impressive list of clients, including notable champions and past champions like Andrei Arlovski, Anthony Hamilton, Jon "Bones" Jones, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and Holly Holm.
On this week's episode 60 Minutes Sports on Showtime, the crew goes inside Jackson Wink MMA Academy to see what makes it stand out from other gyms. Of particular note is the family atmosphere they create by having many of the fighters living at the gym in a dorm-like atmosphere that is completely focused on MMA.
It's an interesting balance of training and culture that they create with the in-gym housing that fully engulfs the fighters in fighting and bonds them together. It's got a bit of a Fight Club feel to it, without the soap-making.
