Indians' Gavin Floyd out indefinitely with stress fracture in elbow

Indians starting pitcher Gavin Floyd has suffered a re-injury of the stress fracture in his elbow that ended his 2014 season prematurely and is out indefinitely, the team announced.

The team has yet to decide on a course of treatment for the pitcher, but it's possible that he'll have to undergo surgery on the elbow. Once the team settles on his treatment, a timetable will be determined for his recovery.

Floyd underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013 and made just nine starts last season before suffering the fracture in his elbow. He was shut down last week due to "general soreness" that was reported to be unrelated to the elbow, but the pitcher was scheduled for an MRI on his elbow this week. He went 2-2 with a 2.65 ERA and 45:13 K:BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings last season.

With Floyd sidelined, Danny Salazar, T.J. House, Zach McAllister, Bruce Chen and Josh Tomlin will be competing for two spots in the rotation.
