Houston pitcher John Ely is expected to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery Wednesday, MLB.com reports. The surgery will be performed by Dr. James Andrews.

Ely, who failed to earn a rotation spot this spring with the Astros due to a poor showing, made one appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City and earned a save as he went four innings and allowed only two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
