Mets ace Noah Syndergaard is nearing a return to the majors after suffering a partially torn lat muscle back in April and on Thursday, I was able to discuss the comeback with him. Of course, given his Game of Thrones cameo last month in possibly the best episode, or best scene, or both, I had to sneak in a few questions about the show.

Warning: A few words moving forward will confuse you if you don't watch the show and if you are a behind you probably shouldn't keep reading as some spoiler-type things are included.

First up, here is the screen-grab of Syndergaard fighting with the Lannister army just about to be crushed by Dany's dragon and the Dothraki:

Syndergaard credits his mother with convincing him to watch the show and he's eternally grateful. He also got to take his parents with him to the shoot.

"It was an awesome time," he said. "I got to go with my parents. We went to Spain, it was about three hours outside Madrid in a little village and stayed there for four or five days or so."

The aforementioned dragon ("Drogon") laying waste to an entire convoy via fire was aided by some well-time explosions on set -- as can be seen in the behind-the-scenes footage provided by HBO. This was Syndergaard's favorite part of being there.

"The coolest thing was seeing the pyrotechnics and how the whole scene came about -- just to see how much, time and dedication it took to make that scene look awesome."

Color me jealous. Though at least he was with me in wondering how we're ever going to wait all the way until 2019 for the final season to be released ("watch the reruns a couple more times," he said).

Syndergaard has also done a series of online commercials for Delta Airlines and he mentioned something about his "acting career" tongue-in-cheek during our conversation, so I wondered if there were any plans. No dice, he's still a baseball player, though he's still open to more of what he's been doing for now.

"I really don't have anything planned, but if the opportunity were to come up, yeah, I'd definitely be hoping to do some of that. It's just a great way to expose yourself and get out there."
