The Baltimore Orioles have lost 17 straight games, but there have been some bright spots for the team including Cedric Mullins, as he and Fernando Tatis Jr. are the only players in the game with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Also, Ryan Mountcastle has emerged as an AL Rookie of the Year contender as his 13-game hitting streak is the longest active streak in the league. Even with the prospect of 18 straight losses a strong possibility versus the Braves, both Mullins and Mountcastle make for intriguing MLB DFS picks on Sunday.

Neither Mullins nor Mountcastle will cause you to break the bank in Sunday's MLB DFS lineups. Thus, rostering either of them will allow you to then splurge on pricier options and still stay under your MLB DFS salary cap. But which of the big names on either the mound or at the plate should you go with being that there are so many quality options? Before locking in any MLB DFS picks for Sunday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine Fantasy expert Scott Engel

Engel is an inaugural member of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association's Hall of Fame and is a prime source to consult for MLB DFS success. Engel has been a premier analyst and Fantasy personality for 25 years. He is a four-time FSWA Award Winner and 10-time nominee, including winning an FSWA award for Best Fantasy Baseball Series.

On Saturday, Engel included Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove as one of his top pitchers. The result: Musgrove gave up just one run over six innings while striking out nine to return 25.9 points on DraftKings and 46 points on FanDuel. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on, Engel has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Sunday. Head to SportsLine now to see them

Top MLB DFS picks for August 22, 2021

One of Engel's top MLB DFS picks for Sunday is Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright at $9,300 on DraftKings and $9,600 on FanDuel. The veteran has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the All-Star break as he has a 2.57 ERA over the second half of the season. He's allowed just two earned runs over his last 15 innings pitched and tossed a shutout 11 days ago.

Wainwright has to be salivating at Sunday's matchup with the Pirates as he's owned the divisional rival throughout his career. Current Pirates' players are just 22-for-111 (.129) against Wainwright with a paltry .317 OPS. In his last outing against Pittsburgh, Wainwright tossed his first shutout in five years as he struck out seven while allowing just two baserunners. All the stars are aligning for Wainwright to return great value for Sunday's MLB DFS lineups.

Part of Engel's optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Brewers outfielder Avisail Garcia at $4,300 on DraftKings and $3,400 on FanDuel, who is batting .409 over his last seven games with four home runs over that stretch. He had a pinch-hit single in his lone at-bat on Saturday but is expected to be in Sunday's starting lineup.

A big reason why Garcia is expected to return to the lineup is because of his dominance over left-handed pitchers like he'll see with Sean Nolin on Sunday. Garcia has a .333/.451/.607 split against southpaws with an OPS 278 points higher vs. lefties than against righties. Add in that Nolin is making just his second start of the season after getting roughed up in his first, and you can see why Engel is so high on Garcia.

How to set your MLB DFS lineups for August 22, 2021

Engel is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to explode for huge numbers on Sunday. The stars are aligning for him to return tournament-winning value and he comes at a price that won't break the bank. You can only see who it is here.
